The Torah, water, life - these are interconnected in our tradition. In today’s modern world, it is easy to forget how dependent on water we are. We have but to open a faucet to be greeted by a stream of water.
For an Israeli soldier out in the field, the importance of water is never lost. Hence, the recognition as to the vital significance a shluker is to them. The shluker (derived from the modern Hebrew word “to sip”) is today’s modern hydration pack – a thin, lightweight pouch that fits easily inside a backpack and carries up to three liters of water. It is equipped with a unique straw-like dispenser which replaces the old fashioned canteen, making taking a sip discreet, safe and quick.
At One Israel Fund, we support humanitarian efforts which help unite our Jewish heartland. We serve as your eyes and ears in determining what urgently needed items are going unnoticed and we, in turn, attempt to raise funds to fill that gap.
And that includes our troops in the IDF. While the government gives them the armor and training to succeed, we try to find those items which may be lacking but are equally important to them.
We all know the importance of water to human life, more so to a soldier and even more to one in the intense heat of the Middle East…simply put, water is one of the most essential items in a soldier’s personal arsenal. It is not protective gear akin to a weapon or military issue equipment. Rather, it is the G-d given staple that keeps the soldier within going – potentially for 24 hours or more if necessary. We therefore, ask you to remember our soldiers with a small gift that improves their water supply and keeps them hydrated throughout their military service.
IDF soldiers in the field carry close to 80 pounds of gear. They carry this equipment for extended periods of time and they need to have a ready supply of water to keep from dehydrating.
For just $36 you can take part in the spirit of giving by donating a shluker and, thereby, creating a lifelong bond with a soldier in the IDF. With your help, One Israel Fund will continue its distribution of thousands of Shlukers to bases throughout Israel.
Please join us in giving the men and women who defend Israel a supplemental but vital piece of equipment.
This is also a very unique and meaningful project for schools, synagogues and Bar/Bat Mitzvah students who are looking for a way to connect themselves to our heroes in Israel. And if you are interested in donating shlukers to an entire base a personal visit to the base can be arranged as well.
A small gift ($36) will go a long way for our soldiers.
